Poetry Notebooks

Every week we add a poem or two to our poetry notebooks. Poetry helps us to make personal connections to the text, connect background knowledge, create visual imagery, and recognize sight words. We read our poem/s of the week each day. First, we read through our poem and highlight sight words and punctuation marks and then we illustrate our poem. Students love adding details to their drawings.
