This week we are reading snow themed books. Today we read two books; Snowballs and Snowball Soup. After reading these two books we made snow! Below is a video of the snow we made. Our class was so excited! We also ate yummy snowballs (powdered doughnuts).

Elmer the Elephant & MLK
We finished off this past week with a review of Martin Luther King, Jr. We read the book, Elmer. This book taught us about individuality and that it is okay to be different . We discussed treating eachother fairly and equally no matter what. We made an MLK poster and pledged to work hard, find peaceful solutions to problems, and to treat everyone fairly and with kindness.
The Mitten
This past week we read the book, The Mitten. We learned about retelling and sequencing events. We retold the story in many different ways. These are some pictures from this past weeks activities (I am hoping to post a video of our class performing the play, The Mitten sometime soon).

New Year's Celebration
We concluded our celebration of the New Year with a New Year's poem and hat. We had a lot of fun learning about the traditions associated with the New Year. Our class was very surprised to learn about the Chinese New Year and how it is celebrated for fifteen days!
Writing
In writing, I will often give students two words that they must use in their sentences. In these particular writing samples I gave the words Tom & zoo. This allows students to use their creativity to come up with their own sentences and to illustrate their ideas.
